Ms. Heather Hays, Director of Bands

Ms. Hays is a native of Genoa, Ohio, a small town in Northwest Ohio.  She graduated from Genoa Area High School in 2001 with honors and progressed immediately into college to study Music Education.  She attended Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, playing the clarinet,  in the fall of 2001 and graduated May 2006 with a B.S. in Instrumental Music Education. (Go Falcons!)

After college, Ms. Hays landed a job in Perry, Florida, where she taught elementary music grades 3-5 for two years.  Within the same district, she then moved to the middle school to teach band in grades 6-8 in 2008, where she held her position for the next 5 years.  There, she taught not only band, but also Music Appreciation, English/Language Arts, Reading, and earned her Reading Endorsement.  While in Florida, she was a member of the Florida Bandmasters Association, Florida Music Educators Association, NAfME, and MENC.  She was also a member of the Tallahassee Winds, a large adult community wind ensemble, first under the direction of Dr. Bentley Shellahamer, then under the direction of Dr. Patrick Dunnigan and David Plack.  (Go Noles!)

July 2013 is when Ms. Hays joined the Mossy Creek Middle School family.  Though a very quick transition and late start, she has enjoyed every minute of her new position.  She teaches band grades 6-8 and strives to grow the program to its full potential.  She also plays actively in a community wind band here in Warner Robins called the Wellston Winds.

Currently, Ms. Hays is completing her Master of Music Education degree at Auburn University in Auburn, AL.  She will graduate August 1, 2015, and is very excited to implement the vast amounts of knowledge she has aquired through her educational experience at Auburn. (War Eagle!)
